Victory Day at the Museum of Yugoslavia

Views on antifascism through time and space

This event is finished.

The Museum of Yugoslavia is marking Victory Day over Fascism with a rich, full-day program marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and the end of World War II. Through a series of events, exhibitions and artistic interventions, a space is opened for reflection on the legacy of anti-fascism and its significance today.

A special segment of the program is the exclusive display of the Order of Victory, the highest Soviet military decoration, which was awarded to Marshal Josip Broz Tito in 1945. Otherwise, the order is kept in the vault, and on this occasion it will be available to the public throughout the day as part of the Museum's permanent exhibition on May 25. The Order of Victory has been awarded only 17 times in history, of which only five foreigners have worn it, including Tito.

The Victory Day program includes a panel discussion starting at 14:00 and continuing until 16:00, discussions will be held:

- Vojislav Martinov, historian and curator at the Museum of Vojvodina, co-author of the "Paths of Liberation" project, will present a book, maps of monuments and locations related to the partisan movement and the anti-fascist struggle on Fruška Gora, offering a free guide with maps of two hiking and two cycling routes

- Vladimir Bjelicic, art historian, curator and visual artist who, in his work "Mirko and Slavko - Illegal emotions... or another (outcast) Love Story", will recreate this comic strip, a pop culture phenomenon in Yugoslavia, through a photo performance

- Renata Poljak, visual artist and director of the feature film "Forests of Forests", will present her achievement. The discussion will be moderated by Ana Panic, art historian and museum advisor at the Museum of Yugoslavia.

The panel will be followed by a screening of the film "Forests of the Forests" from 16:00.
