In a contemporary context marked by individualism and social fragmentation, Marija Bjekic is bringing to life the concepts and values of community, solidarity and collective responsibility. With her exhibition at the Kolac Foundation Gallery, she offers an artistic response to the moment we live in and calls for a collective rethinking – what are we building, what are we destroying and who has the power in this process?

With her starting point in the visual heritage of post-war Yugoslavia and the aesthetics of Russian constructivism, she builds a poetic yet critical dialogue with the past. In this relationship, Marija Bjekic questions contemporary values and their construction in the tension of individual and collective demands, as well as the unstable nature of the social order in a time of fluid truths and economic uncertainty.

In a series of drawings and collages, the artist relies on documentary material and artistic materials (prints, photographs, films, etc.) – through the appropriation, reproduction and recontextualization of selected templates. New constellations of such fragments of the past, the "montage" of new visual constructions, open up the possibility of new readings.
